The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Minister’s message read as follows:
“On the auspicious occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the people and the Government of Maldives join me in extending to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of China, our sincerest and warmest congratulations.
The seventieth anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic is a monumental event in China’s five-thousand-year history. During the last seven decades, China has witnessed inclusive economic and social development at a rate unparalleled at any time or anywhere in the world. The founding of the People’s Republic also helped to bring significant shift in global political landscape. The principles of equality, justice and solidarity among the countries of the global South are values that China champions at multilateral fora. The Maldives will always be your partner in promoting these values.
China has been and continues to be a close development partner of the Maldives. In two weeks’ time, Maldives and China will be celebrating 47 years of diplomatic relations. On this day, I take great pleasure in thanking the Government and people of China for their continued support and generous assistance provided for the development of our country.
