Ms. Aishath Azeema began her career in the Maldives public service in 1988 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after she completed her General Certificate of Education (GCE) O’ Levels.
During her long tenure Ms, Azeema has immensely contributed to the Foreign Service of Maldives by promoting foreign policy interests of the Maldives both abroad and at home. She has wide exposure in a number of different work areas of the Ministry, most notably in the Department of External Resources and the Foreign Relations Department of the Ministry. Ms. Azeema has attended a number of seminars, workshops and negotiations representing the Maldives. She worked her way from the rank of English Secretary to the rank of Joint Secretary.
Ms. Azeema has represented the Ministry in many Committees related to the development activities of the Maldives, executed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also was a member of the negotiation team from the Government of Maldives for its first bilateral Free Trade Agreement.
She has served as Minister-Counsellor in the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in India for a term of five years. During her tenure as the Minister-Counsellor, she served as the Head of Chancery, overseeing the broad mandate of promoting and strengthening the bilateral relations between the Maldives and India.
In early 2014, Ms. Azeema returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Joint Secretary in-charge of China Division and Japan Division, and later as Additional Secretary, heading the India Division and the SAARC Division of the Foreign Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ms. Azeema was also posted as the Minister (Chargé d'affaires) at the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in London, United Kingdom.
Ms. Azeema is married with two daughters.
