His Excellency Abdulla Shahid met with Mr. D Jagatheesa Pandian, Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) today.

At a meeting held at the AIID Head Office, Minister Shahid briefed on the government’s economic agenda and exchanged views on ways to enhance cooperation between the bank. Vice President Pandian assured the support of AIIB in assisting the Government of Maldives towards achieving its development agenda.

His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Secretary, Multilateral and Her Excellency Aishath Azeema, Ambassador of Maldives in China and members of the Maldives delegation also attended the meeting.

His Excellency Abdulla Shahid met with Chairman Chen Daihua, President of BUCG International of the Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) today.

During the meeting, Minister Shahid and Chairman Daihua discussed the importance of the currently ongoing projects in the Maldives being conducted by BUCG. Chairman Daihua expressed interest of the BUCG to collaborate with the Maldives in future development projects as well.

Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has arrived in China on an official visit.

Foreign Minister Shahid is scheduled to call on His Excellency Wang Qishan, Vice President of China and His Excellency Wang Yi, State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China and discuss strengthening relations between the two countries. Minister Shahid will also be meeting Mr. D J Pandian, Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Mr. Li Daosong, President of BUCG International, Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG).

Foreign Minister Shahid is accompanied by His Excellency Ahmed Khaleel, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Secretary, Multilateral, Mr. Miuvaan Mohamed, Director of Communications and Ms. Maryam Bassama Farooq, Assistant Director.
